The Kingdom of Hyrule was enjoying a time of peace. Crops were bountiful, the people clothed and warm, and the skies were the most beautiful blue you'd ever seen. The only problem to be found was a new species of beetles. They were small, with a metallic black and red shine. Mounds of them popped up all over Hyrule.
They seemed fairly harmless at first, only bitting the livestock. This caused the animals to become lethargic for a time, but they'd quickly recover. Then the crops started wilting, the animals barely moved, storms became frequent and violent, and the color seemed to fade from the world. All the while the strange beetles spread like mad accross Hyrule.
Desperate to stop this insect epidemic, Ronan, the king of Hyrule called upon its four (maybe five) champions. It was they, and a highly qualified team of soldiers and scholars, that were tasked with discovering the source of the blood beetles. They met in Hateno village and prepared their best efforts, but disaster struck!
Blood beetles spewed from their mounds, crawling and flying in every direction! They swarmed the villages, draining every square inch of color. The denizens sunk into an ocean of fear and chronic depression, transformed into monochromatic spheres of light. The color loss was greatest at Hyrule Castle. It was shrouded in pure black, swarming with thousands upon thousands of beetles.
Now it is up to the four (maybe five) champions of Hyrule to save the Kingdom, and discover the source behind the beetles.
