My H1B is up for renewal in October 2027 and I need to travel to India sometime in 2027. I’m trying to figure out the best way to plan my consular appointment.
Two questions:
1. Can I book a consular appointment in India for December 2027 using my existing (current) I-797, even though the renewal won’t be approved until October?
2. Given how backed up appointments are right now, what are the realistic chances of slots opening up before October 2027? I’d prefer to go earlier in the year if possible.
Any recent experience with India consulate wait times would be super helpful!
