These 2 forms have changed and developed from their original design, however what has remained consistent was using a photography book on the subject of immigration and another on indigenous north American nation masks as inspiration for the little faces making up the whole.
Considering the stop / start nature of immigration and power dynamics I was thinking of doing one red and one green, so symbolize this start / stop idea.
These are made of standard stoneware, will be fired to come 6.
I'm thinking of doing a wipe back technique leaving a reddish / greenish glaze in the recesses of the faces, then doing a grey stain on the exposed clay on both to tie them together.
No matter what I'll be doing several test tiles.
I'm curious what you think about them in general and about the glaze idea. I'd love any feedback, questions or suggestions.
