Tikka T3x vs Ruger American Gen 2 vs Bergara B14
Whats goin on fellas - first time posting here. wanted to get some opinions. Looking for a new bolt gun without completely breaking the bank. Will mostly be hunting whitetail and hogs on the SC coast but usually spend a few weeks in the fall up in the mountains chasing bears (have yet to tag a bear - just havnt found the right one).
Ive decided to go with .308 - I know there are flatter shooting and newer rounds but I like the ease of availability and the ability to shoot subs from time to time. I plan on running this with a TBAC can (local retailer has an Ultra 7 in stock and I already put my name on it). Scope will likely be something along the lines of a 2-10x40 or something similar.
Hunting in the low country/mountains, im rarely presented with an opportunity over 250 yards so I don’t need this to be a long range build. I grew up bow hunting but don’t have much time for that lately so Ive been taking an old 44 lever gun and it seems to wack them pretty good inside 70 yards.
Okay - enough of the background - the 3 options I’m eyeballing are:
- Tikka T3x Lite Roughtech
- Ruger American Standard Gen 2
- Bergara B-14 Ridge Carbon
I have three questions:
Which one are you choosing?
Is the extra coin for the Bergara worth it if rarely shooting past 250 yards?
Is there a rifle in this price mix that I’m overlooking?
Thanks for your help!
