Does every team have “that” player?
I am building an app (right now just a website) called On The Bus Training with short mental training audio sessions for baseball players.
As a coach, can anyone else relate to this?
When I coached, there always seemed to be that one player that was actually pretty good… but completely in their own head. One bad at bat and they would spiral. They would get down on themselves and underperform almost every game, despite clearly having the ability.
Honestly, I used to think about it all the time because mechanically they were often fine. It felt more like they had never been taught how to handle failure, pressure, confidence, or slowing the game down mentally.
That experience stuck with me enough that I started creating mental training sessions focused on confidence, focus, routines, self-talk, bouncing back after mistakes, etc.
I’d genuinely love to hear from other coaches. What have you done that actually helps players like this?
