Wrapping up stripping and sanding a hundred years of paint and other finishes from this beautiful Douglas Fir (?) trim in the home we just closed on.

Looking for advice on finishing this wood, my wife wants a darker finish (floors will be sanded and refinished shortly) and I would love to emphasize the grain pattern but I know it will be prone to blotchiness with different stains. Would love any and all thoughts!
