This is my 18, almost 19 year old kitty, Hemingway or Hemi for short. He’s been a wonderful addition to our family ever since someone knocked on my door asking if I could take a kitten that’s mom was hit by a car. He has always been such a cool and laid back cat. He likes to be wherever we are, he even loves to travel.
He has congestive heart failure. Last month the vet put him on a water medication to help with fluid build up in his lungs but his cough has remained and got worse. (I made a post last month with a video of his cough while he laid next to his favorite cats mint bush)
He’s not been eating his regular food for about three days now. All that I can get him to eat is some kitten bisque that I mix his meds in. Yesterday his stool was tiny and tarry. He had an accident on the floor beside his litter box and when I cleaned it up I could tell it was bloody. His breath smells horrible and he coughs whenever he’s awake. His urine is tinged pink.
We have an appointment today at three as a follow up for his heart failure condition. I’m thinking it might be time to let him go. I don’t want to jump the gun though. What if he still has some good life left in him? The weather is getting nice and he loves to lay on the deck. My daughter is away (at least a 24 hour drive across the states) for an internship and I know he’d want to see her before he’d go. She’s coming home in a few weeks. Should I wait? Can he wait? Is he hurting? Suffering? I don’t know what to do… I don’t want to kill Hemi.

The first two pictures are of him today and the last two pictures are of him a month ago.
