I've been thinking alot about the timeline of Mother recently and how the events of each game connect, and I can't help but think that Mother 1 clashes with the other games. So it's said that Mother 2 is a sequel to Mother 1, but literally the only connection is Giygas. The fact that after he's defeated in Mother 1, ge grows more powerful to eventually strike again in Mother 2, is the only continuity. The thing I find suspicious, is how similair Mother 1 and 2 really are, while still being slightly different. The worlds of the games, America and Eagleland or both basically just parodies of America from the perspective of the Japanese. Then there's the protagonists: Ninten, Ana and Lloyd are so similair to Ness, Paula and Jeff. On top of that, both games have you collecting 8 melodies. It's also been confirmed that Mother 2 is sort of a reimagining of Mother 1. Now let's talk about the Ancient prophecy written on the hieroglyphs in the Summers museum. One line stands out to me in particular: "The invaders will be reborn every millennium and will attack again." I believe this sort of implies that in multiple points in time, there will be a group of "the chosen ones" that defeat evil, in Mother 1 those chosen ones being Ninten, Ana, Lloyd and Teddy, and in Mother 2 it's Ness, Paula, Jeff and Poo. This reminds me of The Legend of Zelda, where in different points of time, the "Hero" is reincarnated as a different "Link". Even though all the Links from the zelda games look very similair, they're not the same person. So my idea is that like how the hieroglyphs say that evil forces have attacked again and again, very similair events with Giygas striking earth happen in Mother 1 and 2, but with some differences. Just like in Zelda how the calamity ganon that attacks is always the same one, Giygas also remains the same entity, just with the change of his mind and body being destroyed by the immense amount of power he gains. The events of the 2 games just happen in seperate worlds (or timelines, im not really too sure).
The reason why I started thinking about this all, is just because of the fact that Mother 1 doesn't get mentioned (besides giygas returning) whatsoever. Meanwhile Mother 3 makes sense to be taking place after Mother 2, with Porky's return, the appearance of Dr. Andonuts, and many things seen in the post time skip version of Mother 3's world coming directly from Mother 2. Porky's rooms with artifacts from that world for example.
This theory might not be the most coherent thing, but I just wanted to ramble a bit about my thoughts surrounding this. I'm curious about what you all think.
