I know this is like an incredibly dumb question because at face value, yes they are. For example, in my area(Bay area, CA), a first year teacher is paid $72k a year, which is too low on average to live in the area BUT, that is for 183 days of work. On average, a 9-5 worker does 250-260 days, which means if they worked the other 67 days on the random breaks or summer, they'd make $100k, which is enough to live in the area. My question really comes from the point where all the teachers I've heard complain about it are the ones who say they don't work over summer. So teachers, are you really underpaid or are just some of you complaining about not getting summer paid?
