Howdy, Folks! I’m renovating our house, and I found this nice split in the bottom of one of the stringers to the master. Is this thing fixable without adding a full-sistered stringer? I can do it, but it would be a real PITA because we already framed a new wall underneath the stringer, so that would all have to be shifted over to not have drywall weirdness.
I already popped some glue into the split and sistered a block of 2x6 that is resting on both the front and back 2x4s.
FWIW, these stairs have been here for ~50yrs, and originally only had that back 2x4 wall supporting this stringer. No clue how. I added the additional support at the front.
UPDATE: Thanks for all the replies. I ended up popping a few screws in the edge on both the top and bottom, and I also added some ply to the outside. Seems rock solid now.
