I’ve read half a dozen or so of C.J. Cherryh’s Alliance-Union books, which have ranged from fine to the astounding Downbelow Station. I’m currently about halfway through Cyteen (not as good as DBS, but improving as it goes). From time to time there have been references in this book to an encounter the rump Earth government had with extraterrestrials over on that side of space. It isn’t detailed (at least so far).

This sounds like an interesting story. Did she actually write any books on this? I could google this myself of course, but I’d rather avoid spoilers if somebody here can just give me the title of what I’m looking for.
