I registered with a recruitment agency in the UK for a warehouse packing job. They asked me to come in, so I did all the registration, completed a 1–2 hour online induction, and they even paid me for it. They also gave me a high visibility vest and safety boots.

This was about two weeks ago (on Thursday). They asked when I was available to start, and I said Monday. They told me they’d call me the day before any shift if there was work available.

I also received an email with my employee ID and everything. I called them last week to check in, and they said they’d hopefully have something for me soon. They explained that the company tells them how many workers they need each day, and then the agency contacts people accordingly.

It’s now been about a week since that call, and I still haven’t heard anything. I’m a bit confused does this mean I actually have the job, or am I just on a waiting list? At the same time, I’m applying for other jobs and might start a care home role soon. But I’m worried that if I commit to that, the agency might suddenly call me for shifts.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with agencies? Is this normal, or should I just move on?
