I just wondered if anyone else had been prescribed Vetergesic (Buprenorphine) for their cat after leg amputation but made them go crazy?
We originally had him on gabapentin but he was still crying and so we took him back to the vets and they prescribed Vetergesic instead. However, as opposed to gabapentin, once it started to wear off it made him go crazy bouncing and flipping around in his crate, once we took him out of the crate he was flipping and scrambling around the room chewing on his stitches and was very very difficult to restrain / hold down. (On Gabapentin he just sleeps and chills, is drowsy and meows when it wears off as I believe he feels the pain but he doesn’t massively freak out like that.)
Has anyone else experienced this? Only because I have read a few posts on here which say their vet opts to prescribe Buprenorphine rather than Gabapentin but it did not seem good at all to me.

Hi, my 17 year old boy had his front left leg amputated on Friday due to cancer in his bone in that leg. At first when we returned home after the surgery for the first 2 days he was doing well sauntering around (not too much but just to the litter tray and back) and now for the past 2 days he has refused to try move and get up, he is still hungry for food and eats it when we bring it to him and same with water. He only had a wee yesterday because we carried him into his litter box and even then he put up resistance to this and was meowing and hissing - the day before, he only wee’d whilst he was fast asleep next to me on the couch (luckily we had him sleep on blankets) I am taking him to the vets today but I just wondered if anyone else experienced reduced mobility as days have gone on? He is already on gabapentin and preemptively on antibiotics too to avoid infection - surgical site looks fine and fine to touch. He is currently in a big crate which has a big cardboard box and his favourite blanket, he has fresh food and water and puppy pads / flat litter tray.
*He hasn’t even tried to bother with the surgical site either, which I was expecting him to but he acts like it isn’t even there in terms of licking it etc.
This situation is breaking my heart, I don’t know what I was expecting but I’m very concerned and confused by the change in behaviour but unsure if this is to be expected due to pain?
