Question about Harry Clearwater’s funeral
Hello everyone! Recently, I’ve unexpectedly gone back to my pre-teen Twilight obsession, and I’ve found myself wanting to write a fanfic. It’s going to be a Jacob x Bella imprinting story, but I’m sort of playing with the rules Stephanie Meyer set up. For one, imprinting is strictly romantic — therefore there are NO child imprints. I got the sense that in the beginning this was the direction Stephanie Meyer intend to take imprinting anyway, but well… then she had to take Jacob out of the picture so why not change everything and ship him off with Bella and Edward’s kid right?
Also, I’ve noticed that a lot of stories tend to make imprinting somewhat reciprocal, which I don’t plan on doing. In the books, its said that the person being imprinted on (the imprintee) doesn’t feel the supernatural pull the wolf does, and usually gives in due to being unable to ‘resist that kind of devotion’.
I think that sort of dynamic could be really fun (and angsty) to explore with Jacob and Bella, seeing that she wouldn’t be feeling any of the attraction he does, leaving her struggle to let go of Edward much more apparent.
We all know Bella was absolutely madly in love with him, and that’s why I want to explore her falling out of love with him gradually, with several instances that lead to her disengaging with the idea of vampirism.
One idea I had for this, was a scene where Bella attends Harry Clearwater’s funeral. She’d never been to one before, never seen a dead body before, and as a goodbye, she carefully pats his hand.
In that moment, she realizes his skin — his corpse, feels exactly like Edward.
I was really excited about writing this scene but then I realized I don’t know if it conceptually makes sense. I’m not American, and I don’t know much about Native tribes, so I don’t even know if a funeral like this is something that is done amongst them. Hopefully my ignorance doesn’t offend anyone, I’d be really grateful if anyone had some useful information to share.
