Hello everyone, I’m a 21 year old who had a tonsillectomy 2 years prior due to continuous pain in the throat, cryptic tonsils and constant infections. I haven’t regretted the tonsillectomy but since then I have had dysphagia. I had a choking incident on steak where my dad hit it out of my throat and another choking incident with soft food where I almost choked but wasn’t a complete blockage.

I hadn’t went to the dr yet as it comes and goes. Some days I can sit down and eat a meal totally fine but other days I have to take very small bites and essentially breathe through my nose to push it down.

I have obvious scarring In my tonsil bed from a post tonsillectomy bleed, but the ENT I went to yesterday doesn’t think that could be related. He prescribed a month of PPI to see if that helped and a barium swallow test. He did an upper endoscopy in the clinic which said everything looked normal and no clear sings of damage but he would order a lower endoscopy if things came back negative at the swallow study. This dysphasia worries me when out to eat and I often rather eat at home so I don’t choke on food.

Anyone else have dysphagia years post tonsillectomy and if so what could be wrong? My friend said it could be the hypoglossal never injury.
