Veterinary Law Change
I thought people should be aware that the veterinary board in Washington State just rolled back protections for pets. Their updated animal care standards now say that anyone without any prior schooling or training can monitor your pet's anesthesia, analyze slides under the microscope and report results that are used to make a diagnosis, and give medications IV. These are all tasks that used to require a license as a veterinary technician but now can be delegated to anyone (even high schoolers). With the increase in veterinary costs in the state over the last few years, I feel like it is important for people to know what level of expertise the people caring for your pets and monitoring their surgeries have. I know the veterinary industry isn't rushing to tell people about the lower standard.
