Need honest advice: Pediatrics Match 2027 vs 2028 (IMG)
I’m a recent IMG from the Netherlands (graduated 2025) planning to apply for pediatrics
My profile:
No USCE yet
Step 1 + Step 2 still pending
1 years research experience in the US at ivy during med school,
Additional pediatrics research experience (Africa + Europe)
Strong volunteering + extracurriculars
Interested in academic pediatrics / neonatology
I’m worried Match 2027 may be too early since I still need both Steps + USCE + stronger recent clinical exposure.
Would it be smarter to aim for Match 2028 and spend that year on:
strong Step 2 score
1 good hands-on pediatric USCE
dedicated peds/NICU research year
stronger LORs
For pediatrics, would applying too early hurt more than waiting and applying stronger for 2028?
