Successful Refund for Ashes of Creation Founder’s Pack (2020) via Xsolla – Even after 5 years!

Just managed to get a full refund ($182) for my 2020 Founder’s Pack and wanted to share the process for anyone told "it’s impossible."

The Situation: I had my original receipt from 2020. I specifically purchased access to a Beta, but they eventually launched a non-functional Alpha on Steam. Even though they "launched," delivering a broken Alpha is a failure to deliver the service as described.

The Barrier: My bank (ING) refused to help, claiming the 540-day Visa/Mastercard dispute window had closed. Standard Xsolla support also tried to stall with generic templates and "gaming puns."

How I won:

  1. Caught them on their own ToS: Xsolla Support promised a resolution within specific timeframes (first 5 days, then 2 days). They missed both. There were no "timezone issues" or "misunderstandings" here—they were late by multiple full days, period. In a mail, I asked them to define time by an international standard and demanded accountability for their words. This forced them to realize I wasn't just going away and that I was tracking every single second of their failure to act.
  2. Escalated to Legal/Supervisors: I stopped talking to the "regular" support bots. I sent a formal notice to their legal department and supervisors, pointing out their deceptive practices and failure to follow their own Terms of Service regarding communication and deadlines.
  3. The Result: Within hours of calling out their "bad faith" stalling and threatening to report them to the California DFPI, a Case Manager bypassed the automated system and issued a manual refund.

PRO TIPS from my experience:

  • Use AI to spot failures: I used Gemini to analyze my interactions with support in real-time. It helped me identify exactly where they failed to follow protocol, missed their own deadlines, or violated their own ToS. I then used the AI to review my entire email history to find a solid legal basis for my case, which allowed me to move from regular support to a formal legal notice.
  • Don't give up: This was a grind. It took me about 10 hours of work spread over several days to research, draft, and push back.
  • The 540-day rule is a lie: Banks use it as a technical excuse, but the merchant is still legally liable for non-delivery. If you have the receipt, you have a case.
  • Force a supervisor review: Regular agents are trained to say no. Legal departments and supervisors are trained to avoid lawsuits and regulatory fines.
  • Document everything to build your case: Always ask for a specific case or ticket number and save every email. I made sure to take screenshots of all chat logs and requested full transcripts of my interactions. Having a clear, chronological paper trail is what allowed me to prove they weren't meeting their commitments when I finally escalated to their legal department.

If this post helps even one person get their refund back, it was worth it. Also, apologies if I posted this in the wrong place; I don’t really use Reddit that often.

Note: I originally tried to share this in the official sub on April 29th, but it’s been sitting in the moderator queue for 10+ days. Since the official mods there are also the developers, it’s clear they don't want this info out there. Posting here so it actually reaches the players.

The Version for Hardcore MMORPGers

RAID SUMMARY: The Xsolla Refund Encounter

  • Boss: Xsolla (The Money-Hungry Gatekeeper).
  • Boss Type: Stall-heavy Raid Boss / Resource Drainer.
  • Mechanics:
    • Enrage Timer: Tries to kite you until your patience bar hits zero and you give up on the loot.
    • CC (Crowd Control): Generic "gaming pun" templates and support bots meant to stun your progress.
    • DoT (Damage over Time): Drains your patience with first 5-day, then 2-day resolution delays.

Winning Strat:

  • Phase 1: Identify ToS violations to break their armor. Analyze their response times against their own stated policies. Every missed deadline is a stack of Sunder Armor.
  • Phase 2: Bypass the support-tier adds and kite the encounter straight to the Legal Department. Don't waste mana on Tier 1 support bots. Use the "Escalation" ability to pull the boss's attention to someone with decision-making power.
  • Phase 3: Threaten a California DFPI report for the final execute. When the boss is at 10% HP, drop the regulatory threat. It’s an unblockable critical hit that forces the refund to drop.

LOOT DROP: Gief a Gold Token! Only if you get a refund!

TL;DR: Got my 2020 money back in 2026 by using AI to catch Xsolla’s procedural mistakes and holding them accountable to their own deadlines. Don't let them keep your money!
