Shelf life at one school
I'm in my fourth year of teaching (third year at my current place, after spending my ECT 1 as a mat cover at another school).
I'm fairly content at my current school. My immediate colleagues are great. Our SLT are a bit weak, but they don't really impact on my day-to-day that much. The kids are, for the most part, really nice (though behaviour could be better).
I'm not gagging to leave at the moment and it's pretty certain that I'll still be there in September now. However, I have set myself a personal goal that I will leave in July 2028 (after five years) for the following reasons:
*I will have taken a couple of GCSE cohorts and one A-level group to full to completion
*My form, which I started with in Year 7, will be leaving too
*Five years seems like a nice round figure to have spent in one place
Is this kind of forward planning weird? Usually teachers seem to be either desperate to leave a school or intent on staying there long term, potentially for good. I don't fit into either of these categories.
