I used the same design and basis as the Washington DC flag, except rotated it, inverted the colors, and changed the red to forest-green.

This stunning flag celebrates the natural beauty of Montana.
The rawhide pile (triangle) represents the mountainous western part of the state, while the “night sage” blue field on the bottom represents the high plains of the east. The stripes at the top portray one of the magnificent sunsets that give rise to the state’s nickname of “big sky country”. The silver star is a badge of statehood.
This beautiful design instills a sense of beauty, tranquility, and honor. Additionally, when oriented vertically, the flag forms an abstract letter “M”. Finally, through the silver star and golden sunset stripe, the state’s motto of “oro y plata” is represented.
