Why aren’t the motors in my ride on kids car working?

So long story short, mother in law found a ride on kids car and I wanted to fix it up for my son. Ordered a new battery and control motherboard, as well as a few other pieces and everything else is working except the back wheels. Tested separately on a dedicated 12v battery, both the motors are fine, but when wired to the control board, they won’t move. I think my wiring may be incorrect, but that’s what I’d like to get advice about and see if anyone can help me out. I tried to test the entirety of the car wired together and once again, it all worked save the wheels, due to the pedal. It’s a two pin spring rocker switch, but I bought a spring plunger style switch to replace it with, also 2 pins. Could the wires be in the wrong spots? Maybe it could be that the control board isn’t getting the current to the wheel motor wires? Any help would be appreciated, as I’m new to ride in cars, I just know how to wire stuff, but I still feel I’m missing something.
Attached is a rough diagram of how I have the pedal/wheels wired as well as a picture of the rats nest of wires as they are now.
Thanks for any help.

I’m having difficulty figuring out why the wheels won’t rotate, and I’m pretty sure at this point it’s the wiring. I individually tested the two motors and they both work, and the motherboard control and battery are new. I’m confused about if everything needs to be hooked together correctly to complete almost a circuit and how the interplay with the pedal, drove stick and ignition work. I am still missing a few pieces, like the charger and radio motherboard, but I don’t need them for now. I feel like maybe it’s because I don’t have the lower or higher speed switch maybe? I haven’t been able to completely figure it all out, but I’m missing something that I think is causing the gas pedal to not work right. I attached a rough (probably very rough) diagram of how I have things wired, and the lights and all are powering as they need too as well as the voltages are being delivered properly (as checked by a multimeter), but still no wheel movement. Any help would be greatly appreciated, cause these wires are confusing a bit.

Good morning.
My mother in law recently found a Mercedes Benz s63 amg rideable toy car and I’m trying to fix it up for my son since I know how to do minor hardware and electrical repairs. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone knows what this component (small black box attached to terminal connectors) is specifically and possibly where I can get a replacement part (picture attached on post). It’s attached to the positive terminal of the 12V battery, so I think maybe it’s some kind of battery voltage regulator. I’m not sure, but I hypothesize that it’s faulty due to the power wires being melted over (possible over voltage traveled through the battery and fried the wire? Picture of melted connector also on this post).Any advice and/or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
