Help troubleshooting VCR/DVD combo I bought over the weekend.

Saturday I bought a Magnavox zv427mg9 VCR/DVD recorder combo with HDMI output at a sale for $5 I was very excited to have a DVD recorder to transfer some old tapes over. However when I hooked it up and put in my first tape it spit it back out but the film was stuck. I got it out and did some googling I opened it up and cleaned the clear piece and the sensor underneath it as the video said that fixes issues 70% of the time in combo units. The tape now goes in but still won't play but it does try to. Any tips on what I should try next to get the VCR side working?

As I was leaving the flea market I decided to head back for a record I passed on earlier in the day when I got there the record had sold unfortunately but I noticed a video game booth next to them and I always check those out. After checking it over I started to leave when I noticed he brought out a giant box of wrestling VHS and as a long time collector of wrestling tapes I instantly told my wife to go on without me and I would catch up. I asked if they were for sale and dug through all of them and he had more in his car as well! I don't think I've ever gotten this many at one time before so it was a legendary day!
