Hoping someone here has been through something similar and can share what the process actually looked like.
I'm a Sophomore/Rising Junior at UH, targeting the B.B.A. Finance (GEM track). I have more credits toward the Finance degree than my current major and I'm on pace to graduate on time either way.
The issue: I'm estimating I'll finish this semester right around a 3.2–3.248 — just under the 3.25 individual review threshold. Likely finishing with a B or possible C in one course this term.
Context I plan to include in my review:
- Diagnosed with ADHD going into Junior year of high school, was on a 504 plan and genuinely thrived with it
- Came into college completely off medication — stayed off my entire first year while juggling 5–6 classes, working full-time, and navigating shifting post-grad plans (was seriously weighing reserves/NG to fund school after my original university became unaffordable)
- Got back on medication after Year 1 — the trajectory since has been noticeably different
- Have been working full-time since arriving at UH — started in auto sales freshman year, transitioned into a series of internships across insurance, real estate, and energy markets
- Upward GPA trend, competition involvement, and internship track record reflect what I'm capable of when conditions are stable
Looking to know:
- Has anyone gone through GEM individual review at or just under 3.25?
- Did extenuating circumstances / a written appeal carry real weight?
- Any advice on how to frame the case effectively?
Appreciate any insight from people who've actually been through it.
