Sorry, not super knowledgeable about these systems. Looks like the header split off the backboard but not sure why.

Think someone might have been disengaging the carriage. I go to open the garage like usual and the backboard wood split and header broke off as pictured.

Any idea why this happened and how to repair? Do I need to mount a sturdy new piece of wood and screw back in the lag bolts?

For context, we are renters in a cheap house but landlords are very uninvolved and not quick to do repairs, so wondering about doing it myself.
