May 11, 2026 City Council Meeting Recap

The following items were approved as part of the Consent Agenda during the May 11, 2026 City Council Meeting:

Street Repairs and Sidewalk Improvements
Council approved a $2.5 million contract with two allowable renewals for arterial concrete repairs at locations throughout Plano. The project includes repairs to streets, sidewalks and ADA ramps across the city. The work is designed to address areas with larger concrete damage that go beyond what city crews can efficiently complete on their own. By making repairs now, the city can help extend the life of streets and sidewalks, improve pedestrian safety and reduce more costly repairs in the future.

New Heavy Rescue Truck Approved
Council approved the purchase of a new heavy rescue truck for Plano Fire-Rescue. The new vehicle will replace an existing heavy rescue truck that has reached the end of its useful life and is experiencing increasing maintenance needs and reliability concerns. Heavy rescue trucks support emergency operations and assist firefighters in responding to complex rescue situations while maintaining reliable service for the community.

Design Work for Mendomi Park
Council approved funding for landscape architecture and design services for the future Mendomi Park near Legacy West. The project was shaped through public feedback and will include features such as a pavilion, lighted trails, seating areas and enhanced landscaping. The park is intended to create additional open space and recreational opportunities in one of Plano’s fastest-growing areas while complementing nearby businesses and development.

The next regular City Council meeting is Tuesday, May 26 at 7 pm. Agendas/packets for City Council are posted by close of business the Tuesday preceding the Monday night meeting. Meetings and agendas are subject to changes. Go to Plano.gov/Agenda for the meeting signup link.

Plano has a new Shade Map for anyone trying to plan park visits around the sun and shade. It works on a phone or computer: Plano.gov/ShadeMap

The idea came from a resident question on social media asking about the best time to visit different parks and which parks had shade. That question helped spark a bigger idea: Plano already had useful park and tree data in its GIS system, and by bringing that information together, it could become a planning tool residents could use before heading out.

The map lets you choose a Plano park, pick a date and time, and use a daylight slider to preview how sunlight and shade move through the area during the day.

A couple of technical notes:

  • The tool uses GIS data to model trees, shade and nearby park features.
  • It is meant to help you understand where shade may be at different times of day.
  • It is not intended to be a full “digital twin” or exact replica of each park, so you should not expect every swing, slide, playground detail or amenity to appear exactly as it does in person.
  • Actual conditions may vary based on weather, tree growth, seasonal changes and conditions at the park.
  • The tool is still in beta, so it will continue to improve over time.

The goal is simple: help people plan ahead so they can spend more time enjoying Plano parks and trails year-round. Watch our video to learn more.

The following items were approved as part of the Consent Agenda during the April 27, 2026 City Council Meeting:

Police Wellness Program
Council approved a contract for annual physical wellness exams for Plano Police Department employees. The one-year agreement, with four optional renewals, is valued at approximately $345,000 annually and provides a more comprehensive program at a lower cost.

Law enforcement personnel face elevated health risks due to chronic stress, shift-related fatigue and the physical demands of police work. The physical assessment program supports early detection of health risks and consolidates with the department’s mental and physical wellness services under a single provider to strengthen the continuity of care.

Library Educational Programs
Council approved agreements with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station to continue educational programming through Plano Public Library. These partnerships support programs in areas such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM), career exploration, job skills training, workforce development, life skills and leadership.

The next regular City Council meeting is Monday, May 11 at 7 pm. The agenda becomes available after 5 pm on the Tuesday before the meeting. Go to Plano.gov/Agenda for the meeting signup link.
