In far-off lands that have never known snow, live many wondrous creatures boasting hides and feathers as bright as the surrounding tropics.

The supple body of the Rainbow Basilisk effortlessly cuts through the heavy, sweltering air. Fleet-winged and agile in the sky, they snatch their prey—fish and small aquatic life—mid-air, easily impaling them with lethal claws. They live and hunt in pairs. An adult male weighs around 15 kg (33 lbs) on average, but females are nearly twice their size and far more aggressive. These vivid furies are formidable predators and fierce mothers, defending their nests to the death. Both sexes share the same dazzling colors. They mate for life, but their grief differs: if a male dies, the female usually finds a new partner, whereas a widowed male will remain solitary forever.

Yet, they are highly tolerant of animals that aren't enemies or prey. Small birds gladly nest near Basilisks to enjoy the protection of their fearsome neighbors.

A Basilisk’s saliva is highly toxic, making them a prized target for alchemists. Consequently, they tend to avoid humans.
