Replacing Vanity Top - Questions
New Vanity on Existing Cabinet
My over 30 year old bathroom sink is showing its age (rusting around the drain and some leaking underneath - see image #1. I understand doing an enamel repair would be temporary at best. It’s an undermount sink and it is almost impossible to find a a new one with matching specs.
So I’m looking around for a new vanity to replace the current one. My current countertop measures 28” wide and 21” from front to back. See attached Image #3 showing the current countertop which my measurement shows 3/4 inches thick. The underside of the countertop is rough/coarse (Image 3 taken from under the sink and hope everyone can see how the underside of the countertop looks (and feels) like.
I see a prefab vanity top from the website of a big box store with sink that is 28 in. wide and 22 in . depth (front to back) - it already has a front backsplash built in, with a total weight of 113.6 lbs.
So I am wondering if an old marble/granite countertop can support a prefab 113-lb quartz vanity top (including sink) - image #2 attached showing the inside of the sink cabinet looking up)
Also one more thing - the current countertop has one inch overhang on both the front and side. The new prefab im looking at is one inch longer in depth (front to back): i assume it is OK to have a two inch overhang on the front and one inch overhang on the side? The front side and left side of the current countertop are flush to the wall.
