My company is working on installing a mixed-use path through a wooded/wetland area. This area is surrounded by residential but also has a municipal power plant nearby. What we’ve found in clearing this area is that it has been a little bit of a dumping ground. Mostly stuff like beer cans and bottles, presumably from teens underage drinking, but also some parts of older electrical equipment like you’d see on top of utility poles.
The area is also chock full of some small wild alliums. Based on the stuff I’ve seen dumped, I wouldn’t consume anything here, but I’m wondering if there could be any problems if I transplanted some to my yard and let them spread for a few years before trying to eat them.
And to be clear, these plants are doomed to be paved over, so it’s not like I’d personally be affecting the area.
