Thoughts on Obex?
I absolutely loved *Strawberry Mansion* and I thoroughly enjoyed *Sylvio* so I pre-ordered *Obex* from Oscilloscope. It arrived yesterday and I watched it last night. I don't think it's as successful as *Strawberry Mansion*--the pacing is a little odd and I think there were some great moments that could have been expanded and explored more, especially since the film barely scrapes 90 minutes. That said, it's sweet and heartfelt, and its lo-fi, handmade aesthetic adds to its endearing quality much in the same way it did in *Strawberry Mansion*.
On top of that, I think it's pretty cool that the short-film extras seem to all relate to the feature film directly--I haven't watched them all, but "Gruenfeld" fills in the story of the knight we encounter a couple of times in *Obex*, and two of them are expansions of video-game concepts from the film.
I find Oscilloscope a befuddling label because I just have no idea how to classify their releases. They're so all over the map, which is cool but it also means I can't figure out whether I'll like anything before I buy it. So far I've been fairly successful, though!
Did anyone else order/receive/watch this? I don't know that I've seen anyone mention it.
