Curious if anyone else has figured out this issue working in big law. I do not recall this being a problem when I was a junior associate, but for a lot of my third year and all of my fourth year so far I have found it hard to stay focused and locked in to get things done. I feel like I have to work like ten hours to bill six hours because I can’t get my distracted ass to focus on anything for more than like 20 minutes at a time unless it’s a pretty mindless assignment. It’s weird because, in my personal life, I can get locked in on researching things that interest me for many hours at a time without any trouble.
Is it because the work requires more thinking and is less rote now that I’m a few years into practice? Another possible explanation is ADHD—I was diagnosed with ADHD as a kid but was never treated because my parents didn’t think it was real. Or maybe I just don’t like this job? Idk.
It’s frustrating because I want to be more productive but I just can’t seem to keep my brain locked in for very long at all without getting distracted.
Anyone else experienced this? What did you do to solve the problem?
