Tearing dynamic cloth
I just wanted to do a quick test to see how to set up a cloth sim that rips halfway through. Unfortunately, whatever I tried, as soon as the mesh tears apart, it suddenly teleports. I used a manual cut and a weld modifier with a few different setups (using an animated vertex group in the weld modifier, animating the weld distance, using shape keys in the cloth to "physically" tear it apart until the modifier no longer applies, ...) and settings (quality steps, mesh density, collision settings, dynamic mesh yes/no, ...) and it never gets better, only worse sometimes.
The closest I got to what I wanted was using the sewing function on the tear and then animate the sewing force. But with this approach, the edges stay connected through the sewing edges, even if they are pulled apart, so that's not really ideal.
The tutorials I found about tearing cloth rely on pinning everything down until it should rip, usually faking any interaction before the tear appears. Is this the only way to achieve this? Or is there something I could look into to get a more stable sim?
