What can you ACTUALLY do about bad boss

With the job market being what it is, I'm really struggling to deal with a boss who has it in for me, given that it's slim pickings out there, even if you're great at what you do, are experienced, etc.

I still dont understand what I did, but this boss has been on my case since day one. Here's just a few things that I've been dealing with:

  • I'm routinely told to shut my mouth or get dismissed whenever I speak up in meetings--nobody chimes up in my defense, of course
  • My projects keep getting reassigned to less qualified coworkers, who then come to me to fix their work anyway
  • I get chastisted for regularly producing work that upper management commend me on because I'm supposedly trying to "get in good with them"
  • I'm given contradictory instructions routinely and get yelled at when I cant thread the impossible needle
  • Now I'm being forced to have my work reviewed and approved by junior colleagues, but I'm never required to do the same for their work
  • And all of this is DESPITE the fact that I'm a high performer, and said boss has had to admit as much and say that my performance isn't the issue

I'm stunned because I have a great working relationship with just about everyone else at my workplace. I don't even give any grief to members of my own team who are notorious underperformers.

But I really don't know what to do.

Putting my head down and doing my work well anyway doesn't make a difference, and if I ever started underperforming, they'd pounce on me right away.

But I also know it's not worth taking things to HR. They'll just paper it over and likely make things worse.

Outside of getting a new job, I really can't see an out here. I'm sure a lot of people can relate, and I hope someone has some solid advice to share.

Thanks guys.
