Critter ranching basics?

I’ve a room roughly 90 tiles large, it has maybe 8 hatches in it. I’ve only just noticed the “cramped” debuff, reducing reproduction by 100%.

Is there a rule of thumb to ranching?
Like keep only X critters per Y tiles?
(I’m trying to farm hatches for food source instead of using mush bars)

Thank you for anyone who can educate!

Recommended guide?

I appreciate videos; but damn, some of them are very in-depth.

I’m more so looking for a guide / text guide which is super basic, example:

Set living quarters.
Set water station.
Set toilet / sanitation station.
Set food production.
Set research station.
Set oxygen / co2 control.

Etc etc

Does something like this exist out there? Thank you

Over the past week I’ve had multiple runs, all of which I end around 20-100 cycles in.
It typically all ends once I’ve set up my wash rooms.

I have enough power to supply my base with the manual gens.

I have what seems to be an infinite amount of water from that machine that converts dirty water to clean water.

I’ve enough mealworm plants growing for seemingly infinite food to feed my 10-20+ dups depending on how long I play.

I don’t have a reason to expand, I don’t know what the end game is, I look at the tech tree and see a load of stuff, stuff what doesn’t look like it’s going to benefit me, because my people are already surviving and living.

I feel stupid for thinking like this, I’m sure theres just something I’m missing, I just don’t know what it is and don’t know how to reach it.

Anyone care to lend some advice to a confused noob
