hi, imam! i'm looking to order a five sample set from deep midnight, but i'm a little overwhelmed by the catalogue. i've narrowed my selection down to five categories, so now i'm hoping for some insight on which scents would be best suited.
for the record, i tend toward dark, complex scents. i don't enjoy smelling very sweet or foody, but i like gourmand elements so long as the overall effect doesn't read as dessert. gender and weirdness level are both flexible.
THE CATEGORIES
PLUM: i'm thinking sugarplum fae, nocturnis, or kadziel. my questions are: how sweet are they (the "decaying fruit" in kadziel worries me a little)? how strong are the cardamom, myrrh, and dirt respectively (strong, i hope)? should i worry about any of them being too candy/dessert-y?
SPICED VANILLA: shayne’s blend and dark streets shineth are both well loved from what i can tell, but i'm also interested in one enchanted evening. i love leather, but i'm worried about it smelling plasticky. as for the other two, do the cloves drown everything out? is the incense very church-y?
DARK CHOCOLATE: i'm looking at dark desires and mad as a hatter. is dark desires really pine-y or really foody, or somewhere in the middle? is the chocolate prominent in hatter, or does it get lost in the sauce?
FRUITY SPICY INCENSE: i'm so torn between alexandria and byzantium. i love pomegranates but i also love honey. frankincense is hit or miss but i'm willing to gamble. any thoughts on these would be helpful!
SPICE: can you tell i love spices? anyway i'm stuck on lady o and cinderheart. they both sound amazing to me. how prominent is the cardamom in each? i'm cardamom crazy.
any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!
