I jumped back into DCS for the first time in quite a while after a house move. Was great to be back in the Apache - I mainly do Heli’s with a little F18 thrown in every know and again.
Now I’ve always LOVED VR and it is especially good for Helis for landing and hovering, but even with a 5090, 9800x3d and 64 gb ram, when flying that low and slow, the visuals just can’t match my 4k monitor, with Track IR- but I just don’t get immersed.
Today I feel like I’ve found the best of both worlds. I use a quest 3 with virtual desktop, SO - I made a huge curved screen in Virtual desktop and mapped head tracking through open track and launched the game in 2d but on the virtual screen. The tracking was very precise with the quest, and with the size of the giant (imax size) screen, the open track mapping curves didn’t need to be so severe and it was very natural. It ALMOST felt like vr but I had the stunning visuals that 2d offers.
Think this will be the way I fly now.
