Hey guys, I have been leasing a rental in SA for 5 years. The entire time the REA has been an absolute nightmare.
Will complain about the smallest things in inspection reports. There is a massive gumtree which drops a ridiculous amount of leaves. I will clean them all up on a Saturday before the inspection, he will inspect the property on the Tuesday and complain about the leaves and gumnuts that have dropped in the 4 days prior to the inspection. And many more ridiculous things.
At the start of the tenancy the rent was $245 a week. Every year it goes up around 10-15%. It’s now $390 which is already too much for a run down old 1 bedroom tiny unit. Lease runs out mid July so he sent an email about an extension mid April. I said I want to extend, he said he will begin talks with the LL. He never got back to me. I have emailed asking about it and still hasn’t replied. The 60 days before the lease ends in about a week. What options do I have if he offers a ridiculous lease a day before the 60 day deadline?
Before the LLs in this subreddit reply, the housing crisis is ridiculous in SA so finding another rental while I work interstate will be extremely hard and I do not have the time.
