This is apparently the most watched Grammys of all time. Michael Jackson took home 8 Grammys this day. Do you think he deserved to win all 8, or were other people more qualified for a couple of those awards?

I say this because when a lot of people discuss Michael Jackson they say well “he made thriller” and yes he did and it’s the biggest album of all time. However he and his brothers already sold 100+ million records thriller ever came out. Off the wall is one of the biggest albums ever. After thriller bad had five number 1 hit singles and smooth criminal the most legendary track in there isn’t one of them. Dangerous sold like 32 million records. It’s one of the biggest albums ever same as history. Some of his “peers” and biggest artist ever have NEVER sold 32 million copies in one album while at their “peak” yet for Michael dangerous seems to be an afterthought. Why is that?

It’s a question I’ve been wondering for awhile now. He was clearly successful and popular before the 80s, but people weren’t fainting at the sight of him. Where did that type of love and aura come from in the 80s? What exactly changed considering he was always a mega talent?

The King of Rock n Roll Vs The King of Pop. To many Elvis and Michael Jackson are the two most famous/iconic solo music artist of all time. Both are two of the most recognizable names in history. I just wanted to give some objective and subjective measures that would help you guys maybe come up with your pick

Subjective

Who’s more talented? I think Elvis is objectively better at playing instruments. No question about one, but Michael is the greater songwriter. Now when it comes to who’s the better vocalist, dancer, overall performer/entertainer I’ll let you guys decide for yourself.

Who’s more successful/famous/iconic. Michael Jackson has more awards overall, but Elvis was an an active superstar from the 50s to the 70s. Both are easily two of the most iconic people id all time. Both have a countless of impersonators that have entire careers off of just impersonating them. Both of their clothing, voices, songs, dance moves, ad libs, catchphrases etc… are instantly recognizable to a lot of people. Both for a while can argue they were the most famous people on the planet.

Whos more influential? Again both are extremely extremely. Elvis influenced almost every artist that came after him on a global scale, and the same is true for Michael.

Who had the better discography? Again very very subjective and is a matter of taste.

Objective

Who’s sold more records? This for some reason is tough to fine a definitive answer. But I’ll

just say they seem to be tied. Both are at least close to 500 million records sold. Some sites say Elvis sold more while some say Michael sold more. If anyone has a definitive answer for the question please let me know.

Who has more hits? Elvis has a definitive edge here. It is said that he’s charted 149 songs (highly impressive) he also had more number 1 songs 18>13

Who had the higher peak? This one goes to Michael Jackson imo Thriller is the highest peak of any artist in my opinion. 70 million records sold for one album is insane.

So with what I laid out and your own opinion who should be ranked higher on the all time greatest music artist ever list and why?

I ask because of course king of pop biopic is out right now and broke the record for “biggest box office opening weekend for any biopic ever” and it got me thinking the rightful queen of pop should absolutely get one as well!! Imo it could do pretty well at the box office, spread some light on the legend/icon that is Madonna with a lot of nostalgia, while simultaneously keeping her current and perhaps introducing her music to a younger audience. I really want her to get one and I think it would be successful. What do you guys think?

She 100% deserves it. She’s one of the greatest entertainers to ever live. A legendary dancer, songwriter, choreographer, and her videos were short film quality. Very to another Jackson with a biopic out. I’m hoping with the success of her brothers biopic that Janet gets one as well. She deserves to be reintroduced to a younger audience cause the media tried their absolute best to blackball her and her music for essentially no reason. I think a Janet would do well when the younger generation realizes the king has a sister who’s just as cool and a queen in her own right. What do yall think?
