I recently went camping in a national park campground in SA. When booking the trip the website says to bring your own firewood as collection of firewood is prohibited. So I bought my firewood and off I went to the campground.

But as i arrived, I saw people just seem to collect sticks and logs from around the campground to burn them.

Is it a norm to collect firewood and is it not frowned upon amongst Aussie?
