The "mythological significance" of this place is its connection to the Atma-Linga. According to legend, when Ravana was carrying the soul-linga of Lord Shiva to Lanka, it was placed on the ground due to a trick by Lord Ganesha. In anger, Ravana tried to uproot it, and several pieces flew off. The spot where the cloth (Vastra) covering the Linga fell is the modern-day Murudeshwar.✨
