chaplain
Hi, I was recently given an offer to be a chaplain at a state prison. Wondering how the work environment is, is the prison ministry fulfilling, and are you always in the maximum security area or are the offices outside the prison walls and you have to go in to visit prisoners, and do services? Also, for the pay scale would one start at the bottom at 5700 or can the beginning salary be negotiated due to previous non state experience? How much would I net after taxes, SS, pension, etc? Would it be worth commuting and visiting family on the weekends?
How does lateral transfer or applying to other state jobs work, how much of an actual leg up will I have vs. those outside of the step?
