Seeing as smart the Astros are.

Watchman of Doom's core likely have a "Self-Destructive" mechanic that might trigger when mechanic detected the successful removal of the core. Thus triggered a nuclear explosion that's capable of killing alot of Alliance members and even Toilet members too near Watchman of Doom when it's detected that he has been "freed".

The only reason why Duchess interrupted and prevent the "Discorruption" in 79 is because it wasn't the right time to trigger the trap yet.

Also, remember this:

"If i can't have you, no one can"

I think that's what the Astros thought about Titan TVMan/Watchman of Doom too.
