Is Patriarchy Relavent in ATLA
I was recently wondering if patriarchy is even relevant in ATLA or even LOK.
I mean, the Fire Nation eventually had a female ruler. Master Pakku, who was initially sexist and set in his ways, eventually became "reformed," I suppose. And Kyoshi Island warriors really challenge this perspective. I believe many female characters in ATLA also challbege this like Hama, Toph, Azula, Mai, Ty Lee, and Katara.
But just thinking about the Fire Lord just irks me. I mean, this is a man who used women to further his agenda in solidifying the Fire Nation's presence in the ATLA world. He used his wife and his daughter to push forward his causes.
Any further ideas?
