Ink After-hours (18+)

Hey guys! A friend of mine recently made a Discord server that fosters creativity within writing, OC creation, role-play, and all things imaginative. We are a small community, but have shared writing pieces, art, and even roleplay finding! We are looking for others to join us in our excitement, and to share their work! There will be weekly writing prompts posted on Fridays (except for this one), and will extend until the following week- an encouragement to challenge everyone's skills!

Outside of this, the server is still fairly small, and maintenance is common as the server undergoes organizational routines and clean-ups. It is a bit quiet at times, but we hope to cross that threshold of social activity! Please be aware that our server IS 18+ only, as there is an optional toggle for an NSFW channel

This server is heavy on writing and world building!! We love people who can craft new things with us, and anyone looking for new ideas is welcomed with open arms!

✦Genre/s: Any

✦Goals/expectations/commitment: Create an engaging environment

✦Writing/experience level: Varied

✦Meeting place: Discord

✦Max size: Looking to reach at least 100 people, with 30~ active participants

If this sounds like a community you'd like to be a part of, please reach out or leave a comment and I can send you the link! We look forward to hearing your stories ❤️

Looking for short recommendations

As the title says, I'm looking for a short fantasy/sci-fi book that's quality and interesting. Honestly, I don't have much specific needs - just looking for a shorter book to read before I jump into some of the bigger series I have in my TBR.

It can be philosophical, action/character based, dense or not too deep.. just throw your recommendations for some of your favorite shorter books and I'll check em out ^^

Writing quirks

As the title states, I go through quite a lot of my own weird writing quirks. I wanted to share some in hopes some people can relate and just overall reassure me that I'm not crazy or the only one who feels this way when writing.

First of.. I cannot, absolutely cannot outline. The most I can do is think of a scene in my head then begin to put it on paper, but I can't ritually make scenes and conjure an ending to said scene without actually having written it down. Like, when I actually sit down to write, my fingers just flow and ideas flourish, and I have a blast. But trying to think about where I want the story to go before I write it.. doesn't work for me.

Next, is that I absolutely love writing, but I'm just so unconfident. I know this feeling is more than likely universal, but I will write 2000 words straight, and during I'll add stuff that I think is great. I'll finish feeling accomplished, proud of myself. Then read it over and.. bleh. Not good. Luckily this doesn't happen all the time, and the feeling of writing something I'm genuinely proud of is the best. But that lingering feeling of being unconfident with my writing seems to kinda follow me.

Lastly, I fear I tend to over explain. One of my favorite parts of writing is description, or in general describing one feeling things, or describing something happening to someone or something. I tend to just get caught up in the flowerly web of prose and over explain myself, when I can probably indude the same feeling in less words or description. This is less of a quirk and more of a flaw, I feel - but the reason I do this is because I just love writing. I love using words to describe things, yknow?

Okay, sorry for ranting. If you read all this, have a good one, and keep writing!

Hello! Recently I dug out an old Chromebook that my dad used years back, and for about the first week I was having a blast. About a few days ago I noticed the Google play store completely disappeared - and pretty much every function of android use with it.

I tried booting it into developer mode and using a USB stick to revert it back to a previous OS so I can restore the android compatibility, but it says that I'm not allowed to do that because the owner hasn't allowed it. Which is weird because I've checked everywhere and it's not business or school owned, but completely mine.

Im just struggling to see the use of it now that I can't download ANY apps from the app store. That was a huge selling point and reason I was excited to use this, but now it's just very bare bones.

Would love some feedback on if feeling this way is justified or not - if anyone can tell me how to get Google play back and working that'd be a huge plus too. Thanks for your time!

Piranesi is, in one word, serene. Everything about it, from the unique, beautiful but often unsettling labyrinth that is the house, to the mysterious two characters and the curious way it is written via journal entries. This book starts off with a bang, and through it's around 200 pages, never ceases to be spectacular

.

Like any good book, Piranesi does something very common and simple and does it well: It asks questions. Not outright ones, where they can be answered via a simple Google search or meditated on while not reading, but questions so unique to the world, specific to the plot that you oftentimes are found flipping back pages just to see where the foreshadowing started and if you can catch something you glossed over before that didn't make sense, which now makes perfect sense a chapter later.

Everything, and I mean everything, is steeped in a deep mystery. From the house to the main character, to the why's and where of the house to the who and what of the main character. The book expertly challenges you, the reader, with questions but never makes it feel like an uphill battle for answers. Everything.. unfolds.

One of the best, most prominent pieces of literature I've read, and a classic in the fantasy genre. I recommend Piranesi to anyone who has 200 pages to spare.
