Just sharing an experience.

TL;DR: I mistook behavioural evidence for cognitive evidence.

I hadn't been interested in MBTI or (typology in general) for a good while now, but believed I have a good grasp on the cognitive functions and was convinced that I was INTJ. Recently, I decided to check out PDB just to check what's up with the fandoms I'm interested in. I checked the discussion about Pomni (from TADC) and saw the uncertainty and variety of arguments on what type she could be. That made me appreciate just how well written she is, and it also made me wonder how complex people really are beyond the cognitive functions, or what I thought it was. That's when I realized how much I misinterpreted the whole thing the whole time.

See, cognitive functions are called "cognitive functions" for a reason. Not traits, not capabilities, not tendencies—cognitive functions. This misintepretation greatly diminishes the use of MBTI no better than 16P where the "functions" are treated as traits and such; It's using MBTI like 16P but with extra steps. Rather than figuring out at how people function cognitively, I looked at how people behaved and what they seem to be good at. It's less interesting to observe behaviours than to interpret cognitive processings. That lead to me realizing that I'm not actually INTJ.

I can't really blame myself for being convinced with my (mis)type. After all, I have great intuition but quite ungrounded, stubbornly sought control and made systems, and avoided spontaneous unpredictable social situations. (Could go all day to comprehensively share why I believed I was INTJ, but that's the gist of it.) Thing is, that's less of what makes an INTJ an INTJ. None of my "evidence" was really indicative of the cognitive functions, only the mere appearance of the function rather than the actual internal processes.

Taking a step back, the cognitive functions are simple to understand and almost self-explanatory, but tricky to identify and easily mistaken and misinterpreted for seemingly natural things. (I.e: Exxx or Ixxx doesn't show sociability, it shows general direction of the dominant function if it's inward or outward; Characteristics, behaviour, capabilities, and preferences can be shared by anyone of any type, making them unreliable to identify cognitive functions.) Arguably counterintuitive and ambiguous at times but very logical (although still subjective and interpretive). Real people are messy and more than just that, after all.

It's like learning everything for the first time again but this time actually making use of it to decipher one's cognition, internal processes and subliminal nature. With this fresh perspective, I finally realized that my actual type is ENFP. Independence, maturity, thoughtfulness, and anything else can make it seem (or not seem) like it, but the stack alone interprets my cognition which is the real tool of MBTI, one that I've been misusing for a while. Or maybe this is just a second season of typology delusions but eh.

So I've been practicing with hearts, but I struggle to keep the shape and pour consistent which makes it look rough. I had enough of practice and decided just mess with layers, then I did this first try by accident. Not the prettiest but leagues ahead from what I usually get. Will try to mess with other techniques next time 👍
