Triplets are taking a bath together💕😍💕

It was sooo cute😍
My girlies are to cute😍

This was the rare time when they took a bath together, often it is just one at the time.

(They never bath without me watching them and they never tried to eat that)

Silver💕😍💕

Silver loves her basement😍☺️😍

They’ve got a three-story cage . And that’s basically their basement! 🏠✨ 🏠
These little climbers love balancing on their branch, but I’m itching to add more climbing options to their playground.

💕Any creative ideas to spice up their space?💕

I am so satisfied, after the weekly deep clean✨😍✨

I freshen up their space every day by changing their toilets, brushing, and vacuuming their cage (they only use their toilets for peeing! 🐾🫶 🐾).

Once a week, I switch out their fleece liners and wipe down all surfaces, finishing off with a towel dry. 🧼 ✨🫧✨ 🧼

There’s nothing quite like that feeling of satisfaction when the job is done! 😊💕✨💕☺️

(Our cage is: 2,2m x 1,25m x 1,25m or 7.22 ft x 4.10 ft x 4.10 ft. or 86.61 in x 49.21 in x 49.21 in)

Hey everyone💕🫶💕,

I’m planning to build a chewing toy for my triplet girls and had a fun idea! I’m considering dyeing the wood with hibiscus to not only season it, but also to give it a nice pink look. They already have plenty of common wood to chew on, so I thought this could be a fun addition.

Has anyone tried using hibiscus for this purpose? I know that it is safe for chinchillas…but would it dye the material?

Any tips on the dyeing process or ideas for chewing material…I live in europe so US shops are because of Tax and shipping not an option.

(Obviously I would only use untreated and safe woods and natural loofah)

Thanks!

Hi👋🏼,

I have two chinchillas, Vanilla and Poppy, who have taken to rolling in their toillet(it’s for me yucky), while their matriarch, Silver, does not do this. I’m curious if this behavior is normal or if it might indicate something else. Is it something like group scent marking?
(They are three sisters born on the same day)

I had plenty of vet visits with them regarding their weight an teeth(adopted them ill from an old lady, who misstreated then). They are health besides that, better put they are healthy now: weight is normal and teeth are trimmed in surgery.

They have plenty of access to dust baths, so I’m unsure why they do this behavior.

Silver, on the other hand, seems to be constantly scent-marking different corners of the cage, which leaves the fleece a bit damp and has a noticeable smell. This is becoming quite annoying! (Even though they use their toilettes quiet heavy)

Thanks!

☺️

My boyfriend and I have different levels when it comes to crafting, but we build the cage by ourself and lots of the interior.

I was happy when even our exotic vet was really satisfyied with that cage.

To the commen comments:

1: no I don’t want another cage: The common three floors critter nation is in my opinion way to tiny for them

2: No they don’t nibble on the cage, because the cage is huge enough, so they aren’t bored.

3: we used safewoods

4: the wire is aviary wire wich is thicker than rabbit wirer

5: the front doors are also out of wood and wire

32 days ago, I adopted three chinchillas from an elderly woman who felt too old and overwhelmed to care for them. She informed us that they weren’t handled often, so they are shy.

For the first 1.5 weeks, I observed them closely and noticed they weren’t eating hay pellets or hay —only their old pellets. I mixed these old pellets (which contained wheat, dried fruit, and hay) with the new, high-quality 100% alp hay I bought. Unfortunately, they just picked out the old stuff, so I decided to stop mixing and give them only the new hay pellets.

(It turned out that the woman had been feeding them unhealthy food.)

I didn’t see Poppy eating at all, so I took them to the vet earlier than planned(after 1,5 weeks. I initially wanted to wait three weeks to first feel save in their new home).

Poppy, has Malo her teeth growing in every direction, with one tooth going/growing into her gum, causing an infection. The vet informed me that she must have had this issue for a really long time(so she suffered already at the old ladys place). We had to trim her teeth and start her on antibiotics and anti-inflammatories daily (which we’re still doing).

She weighed only 413 grams when I took her to the vet and is now at 439 grams. (This is why I accidently saved her, she would have starved to death at her previous place, the old lady wasn’t in rush to find a new owner and the chinchilla owner community is small in switzerland).

We are syringe feeding Poppy with critcal care 3 times a day. It was first hard, because she wasn’t trusting us and didn’t want to get handled, the burrito method helped though. Now she is eating out of a now bigger syringe by herself, she runs to me when she sees the syringe.

While she’s started to eat leaves and flowers, she still refuses to eat hay or the new hay pellets and she still gets critical care.

Her sisters are healthy, besides als overgrown teeth, but nothing infected and do on. But Silver and vanilla are both refusing to eat hay. We’ve tried various types of hay, including mountain hay (with herbs and flowers), timothy hay, and common hay. The previous owner had never given them hay at all.

What frustrates me the most is that she assured me they were healthy. After confronting her, she admitted that she hadn’t taken them to the vet in their four years of life.

As a college student, I’m managing some part-time work (no financial support from my family or goverment) to cover the vet bills(and my living coasts). I wish I had known I was taking in an ill chinchilla. My boyfriend (also a student) and I was already just for Poppy at three vet appointments(emergency check up + teeth trimm + contro). But we need to go to another check up.

And two for the others check up + teeth trimm.

Despite everything, I already love them so much and would do anything to help them get healthy. I would spend all my money and even sell my belongings if necessary, and give myself just the amount of money to cover the unavoidable bills…just to spend all my money to save them.

I'm furious with that woman for misleading me and also with myself for being naive. I’ve cared for many different animals before, most of which came from previous owners and were all healthy. I thought that by providing them with good food, they would „remain healthy“(they weren’t in the first place).
