Advice on open space kitchen
Hi all! I stumbled upon a nasty trilemma designing the first floor of the house I'm building. I'd appreciate any thoughts/advice on any or all of the 3 options (or on the space in general).
So "Option 1". Pros:
+ it's "flexible". The couch could easily be moved closer/farther from the TV
+ it feels the most spacious
+ the placement of the TV makes sense
Cons:
- the "entrance" area feels too small and not at all separated from the living room. it's very much "no shoes inside" culture here and I'd like some more space so people can comfortably take off shoes and jacket.
- the dining table is separated from the kitchen by the TV area. for me it really feels like a crime against design. like if you cooked something you have to go through the people watching TV on the couch in order to get to the table. is it just me?
Option 2. Pros:
+ still pretty flexible
+ got rid of the dining table problem. the positioning of the spaces seems to make sense. Kitchen <-> Dining <-> TV + couch
Cons:
- the window is condemned. Not much to see there anyway, but still
- the table right behind the couch is a little weird?
- the wall between the glass door and window seems too empty
Option3. Pros:
+ love the extra structure (and storage) the pony wall provides
+ separated entrance area to take of shoes and jacket
+ again the positioning of the spaces seems to make sense
Cons:
- not flexible. the couch is basically bolted to that exact spot. the table can be wiggled around though
- condemned window again. and that's one of the good windows too
- the empty wall between the TV and the glass door makes even less sense. I put a shelf there but that doesn't seem to help
Added some outside view for context regarding windows. Yes the property is very weirdly shaped, but it is what it is. In green there's some space for potential entrance area, so that could solve some of my problems. But that's for later down the road, i'd like to make do without that for now
