I made a custom fitted leather sheath for my large Sebenza.

This is my second leather project but I love how it came out. I learned about wet molding the leather and really wanted to make a sheath like that. Not pictured but this has a metal clip on the back. I wore it on my belt today and it worked perfectly.

I used to be all about pocket clips. Something with my Sebenza changed that. I started using the leather slip that was included with my inlay model. Just because I liked how soft and nice it felt. But then I got… leather curious? So I guess I’ve graduated to a full on sheath. Since I made it I feel more attached to it.

Several moments of trial and error on this. I just bought stuff and started working. I drew my template, cut it out, researched my questions as I ran into sticking points. The stitching is not very good at all because I tried to poke holes with a punch at first rather than a pricking iron. Then I got the pricking iron and accidentally hammered some of the holes through at an angle. Sometimes I used the wrong tools for a job. I just went back and forth to Hobby Lobby to grab stuff as I went.

I thought I was done but decided I wasn’t fond of the natural color. So, I dyed it with Fiebing’s alcohol based dye. I used quite a lot of dye without knowing what I was doing,
or the trade offs. Then, I learned about dye rubbing off on stuff, so, that’s probably gonna be an issue. Like I said, just did stuff to find out. Next project I have some lessons learned to work off of. I’m planning to make a folding knife belt sheath. My favorite feature of the wallet was wet molding it around my cards, and I plan to repeat that process for the sheath to a more dramatic effect with the knife. But yeah, it was fun!
