My surgeon is recommending a sequential compression device (SCD) to prevent blood clots post-surgery for a labral tear.

My plan to prevent blood clots was to take the baby aspirin as recommended, wear compression stockings, use the CPM, move frequently during waking hours, and do the twice daily PT as recommended week 1.

However the surgical RN called me today expressing concern for blood clots if I don’t rent the machine. When I told him my plan to use compression and move throughout the day, he said I wouldn’t be active at night so there was a higher risk of blood clots.

My research shows the risk overall isn’t that high and I don’t have any factors that place at a higher risk (other than the hip arthroscopy). What have other people done? I don’t want a DVT but this seems more like CYA on their part than a real risk on my part?
