Hello! First time conure owner here. I picked up an 8 week old sun cheek conure yesterday. He is still hand fed twice a day with seed offered throughout the day. He ate yesterday around 2:30 from the breeder and then I took him home. I have him settled into his cage with a bowl of seed and some romaine lettuce and broccoli in case he’d like some veggies. He seems to either be playing in the seed or eating it, unsure which. But he is very active and making quite a bit of noise. Ive been trying leave him be to settle in and not stress him out. I was told he would be hand fed at 8:30AM and 8:00 PM.
8:00PM last night: was not interested in being hand fed. Just wanted to climb around on me and bite me, not super hard, just little nibbles.
8:30AM: not interested in being hand fed either. he was way more interested in me than anything else. so we hung out for 20-30 minutes and i tried again but still nothing.
I cleaned his cage since he pooped quite a bit overnight, and then gave fresh food and water.
Any suggestions on what to do about him not wanting to be hand-fed? I’ve hand fed lovebird before but not conures. Seems like the lovebirds took to it pretty quickly.
