Luo's choice of helping her to scape was done out of his free will and desire for Cyan's wellbeing, despite knowing that the Dean would punish him for it.

Cyan's choice searching him despite being told that he was dead and even returning to a traumatic place for her, twice, was also done out of her free will out of care for Luo

You can't say that she is ungreateful or a bad friend when she did what everyone would do for those who are important, keep searching despite having no clues but a hunch, keep hoping that they are alive and well even if the evidence points otherwise, refusing to harm them when they are clearly not in their right mind and trying to harm you

Cyan could have ran away her whole life without looking back, not even thinking with anything related to the orphanage or Luo, and it will be right, because that would be Cyan's choice and that's the whole point of even helping her escape to begin with
